A remarkable group of original hand tools belonging to Sergio Scaglietti (1920–2011), the legendary Modenese coachbuilder whose craftsmanship shaped many of Ferrari's most iconic competition and road cars of the 1950s and 1960s. The collection comprises a selection of specialist sheet-metalworking and panel-beating tools, including a pair of coachbuilder's shrinking pliers, panel files, body spoons, forming dollies, a lead hammer, files, hole-puncher and other specialist implements.
The tools display the honest wear expected from decades of professional use, bearing witness to the daily work of one of the twentieth century's greatest automotive craftsmen. Before the widespread adoption of industrial pressings and computer-controlled manufacturing, bodies for Ferrari's most celebrated models—including the 250 Testa Rossa, 250 GT SWB, 250 GTO, 250 LM and numerous one-off competition cars—were painstakingly formed by hand. These very tools were essential in shaping, shrinking, stretching and finishing aluminium body panels.
Retained by the Scaglietti family for decades, these tools offer an exceptionally tangible connection to the workshop in which some of Ferrari's most beautiful and historically significant automobiles were created. More than simple workshop equipment, they are surviving instruments of craftsmanship from an era when the world's greatest sports cars were fashioned by hand, one hammer blow at a time.
