From Chinetti's internal archive comes this superb and historically significant compilation of original documentation pertaining to the international competition activities of Ferrari 512 S chassis number 1006, as campaigned by Luigi Chinetti’s North American Racing Team during the 1971 Temporada Internacional de Automovilismo in Argentina.
This unique archive, preserved in its original file folder, comprises more than 30 period documents including typed and signed correspondence from Luigi Chinetti Sr. and Ivo Brillo of Luigi Chinetti Motors Inc., including shipping orders, customs declarations, and official instructions for the import/export and clearance of 512 S chassis #1006 to and from Argentina. A typed inventory of spare parts detailing components sent to support the 512 S campaign, such as brake pads, clutch, lights, “A” arms, U-joints, welding rods, jack lights and more. Telegrams and airmail envelopes (notably from the Automóvil Club Argentino), confirming race logistics, regulatory correspondence, and arrival notices for the vehicle and team. Letters referencing high-profile team associates such as Juan Manuel Fangio, who acted as point of contact for vehicle arrival and customs facilitation. Detailed expense report by Prof. Ennio M. Gherardi, outlining team travel and logistical costs for the 1000 km Buenos Aires race on January 10th, 1971. Internal N.A.R.T. memoranda, handwritten notations, and administrative letters involving key names like Sam Posey, Nino Vaccarella, and Jean-Pierre Beltoise, the latter connected to the tragic accident involving Ignazio Giunti, referenced in a letter from the Automóvil Club Argentino.
The documents not only offer a comprehensive overview of a major international race campaign but provide critical verification of 512 S chassis #1006’s competitive provenance in South America. A vital cache for collectors, historians, and curators of Ferrari competition history.
