A remarkable archive relating to the ex-Luigi Chinetti Motors Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Competition, chassis 16343.
Highlights include a SEFAC internal engineering memorandum, dated 11 January 1973, detailing the complete race preparation specification for chassis 16343 prior to the Daytona 24 Hours. Extending to three pages, the document records the extensive modifications carried out by the factory, including engine preparation, Weber carburettor specifications, transmission, suspension, braking system, steering geometry, cooling, electrical system and body configuration, offering an exceptionally detailed insight into Ferrari's works competition programme.
Also included are two original Ferrari factory invoices addressed to Luigi Chinetti Motors Inc., Greenwich, Connecticut. The first, dated 17 January 1973, records the supply of chassis 16343 together with competition equipment and spare parts, carrying the important notation that the car had been prepared exclusively for racing and could not be imported into the United States for road use. The second, dated 20 January 1973, details additional warranty replacement parts supplied to Chinetti immediately following the event. The archive continues with two contemporary press cuttings illustrating chassis 16343. Accompanying correspondence includes a July 1974 letter listing documentation and equipment shipped to Luigi Chinetti Motors before Watkins Glen, specifically referencing racing Daytonas 16343 and 14141, while a 1982 letter from the attorneys handling the Crevier Imports bankruptcy identifies chassis 16343 among the assets sought by the court, providing a fascinating record of the car's later ownership history. Completing the archive is a later Competition Daytona Data record, documenting ownership, race appearances and detailed mechanical specification accumulated during the car's subsequent career.
