A remarkable bronze crucifix of exceptional historical significance, cast at the Ferrari foundry in Maranello in 1988 in anticipation of the visit of Pope John Paul II to Ferrari that June. Only a very small number of these crucifixes were produced. They were intended as presentation pieces associated with the Papal visit, with one example retained by Enzo Ferrari for his own collection.
The present crucifix was personally presented by Enzo Ferrari to Sergio Scaglietti, whose close friendship with Ferrari spanned more than four decades and helped define some of the marque's most celebrated road and competition cars. The crucifix is executed in an expressive modern style, with a sculpted bronze figure of Christ mounted upon a heavily textured cross. Its restrained artistic treatment reflects the dignity of the occasion for which it was commissioned while its direct provenance elevates it far beyond an ordinary devotional object.
Objects personally gifted by Enzo Ferrari to Sergio Scaglietti are exceedingly rare. Unlike commemorative pieces produced for wider distribution, this example remained within the Scaglietti family from the time it was presented, providing an unbroken provenance directly from two of the most influential figures in Ferrari's history. A deeply moving and highly important artefact, combining Ferrari history, personal provenance and the unique legacy of the 1988 Papal visit to Maranello.
Good condition, 75x42 CM.
