Title: Jo Gough | 'Big Ben' | Acrylic On Canvas | Original
Big Ben is a vibrant celebration of one of London's most recognisable landmarks, bringing together architectural beauty, childhood nostalgia and Jo Gough's unmistakable love of colour.
Inspired by family visits to London during her childhood, when her father worked in the City, the painting holds a particularly personal significance for Jo. The iconic clock tower, with its intricate architectural details and instantly recognisable clock face, takes centre stage against a beautiful blue sky.
Surrounding the landmark is an explosion of colourful wildflowers, with bright red poppies, playful pinks, purples and greens transforming the familiar London scene into something wonderfully uplifting. Delicate paint splashes and expressive floral details contrast with the carefully observed architecture, creating a lively balance between structure and spontaneity.
For Jo, the painting is more than a depiction of a famous landmark. It is a way of revisiting treasured childhood memories and celebrating the places that stay with us throughout our lives.
Full of colour, warmth and personality, Big Ben offers a joyful interpretation of London's historic skyline, capturing not just the beauty of the city but the happiness and nostalgia it can inspire.

Jo Gough is a Cheshire-based contemporary artist whose vibrant, uplifting paintings celebrate colour, happiness and the emotional connections we have with the places and people we love.
A self-taught artist, Jo's creative journey took an unconventional route. Despite a lifelong passion for drawing and painting, she initially pursued a career in IT, spending 30 years in the industry before following her heart and embracing art professionally.
Working primarily in acrylics, Jo has developed a distinctive style characterised by rich textures, bold colour combinations and meticulous attention to detail. Her work spans colourful cityscapes and iconic landmarks to expressive florals, trees and her much-loved heart paintings, each reflecting her optimistic outlook and passion for creating art that makes people feel good.
A turning point came in 2013 when Jo was commissioned to paint Liverpool's iconic waterfront, inspiring her exploration of architecture and nostalgic locations. She later expanded her practice into more expressive, nature-inspired compositions, bringing the same energy and individuality to every canvas.
Working from her home studio in Cheshire, Jo creates joyful, instantly recognisable paintings that celebrate life's brighter moments. Her work is also represented by Gallery 38 in St Ives, Cornwall.
At the heart of Jo's practice is a simple belief: art should bring happiness, evoke memories and create a genuine emotional connection with the viewer.
