Ultra Violet Light is a vibrant, surreal oil painting by Simon Bailey, bringing together his love of nature, music and playful hidden details.
Named after the U2 song, the painting was created while Simon listened to the band's albums on repeat, particularly The Joshua Tree, Achtung Baby, Pop and Rattle and Hum.
Towering trees dominate the composition, with an extraordinary mix of purple, green and turquoise tones, while a vivid carpet of autumn leaves brings bursts of colour to the forest floor. The intricate bark of the central tree was built up over seven layers, each adding depth and complexity to its distinctive pattern.
Inspired by the patterns found in nature, Simon has also introduced a leopard-print tree, bringing an unexpected rock-and-roll twist to the landscape.
But look a little closer and there's even more to discover. Hidden amongst the leaves are cats and dogs, while Bono makes a secret appearance wearing his iconic Fly sunglasses. There's also a hare or rabbit somewhere in the painting, although Simon insists it's in plain sight!
Full of imagination, colour and personality, Ultra Violet Light invites viewers to explore its many details and discover something new with every look.
