Title: Simon Bailey | Autumn Sunlight | Oil on Canvas | Original
Autumn Sunlight is a wonderfully colourful and imaginative original oil painting by Simon Bailey, transforming a familiar woodland scene into a surreal landscape full of unexpected details.
The unusual colours and playful composition give the painting an almost dreamlike quality.
Music plays an important role in Simon's creative process. While working on this piece, he was listening to The Cure, and their song The Lovecats inspired him to hide cats amongst the fallen leaves as a playful tribute.
Simon describes experiencing music through colour, and believes the distinctive green and purple trees were influenced by the songs he was listening to while painting.
The winding pathway also sparked some unexpected interpretations. When Simon's son, a Liverpool supporter, first saw the finished painting, he immediately spotted what looked like a West Ham scarf. A few weeks later, a friend who supports Aston Villa recognised his own team's colours in the same design!
With its bold palette, surreal atmosphere and hidden surprises, this piece is a joyful celebration of nature, music and the different ways we interpret art.

Simon Bailey is a South London-based contemporary landscape artist whose vibrant oil paintings reflect his love of nature, music and creative freedom.
Known for his dramatic skies, colourful landscapes and expressive approach to painting, Simon finds inspiration in the everyday beauty of the natural world. Influenced by Henri Matisse's fearless use of colour, he brings his own distinctive perspective to familiar scenes, transforming them into atmospheric works full of energy and personality.
Music has always been an important part of Simon's life. Having spent years playing bass guitar in bands across London and the UK, he brings a musician's instinct for rhythm, emotion and expression into his painting. His connection between music and colour gives his work a distinctive energy, where a landscape can feel as much like a piece of music as a visual experience.
Refreshingly down-to-earth, honest and kind-hearted, Simon approaches both his art and life with a genuine sense of openness. There is nothing overly complicated or pretentious about his creative philosophy; he paints what moves him, embraces colour and stays true to himself.
Simon has exhibited at Sussex Art Fair, Rochester Art Fair, Art Fair East and FLUX Exhibition, alongside solo exhibitions at The Gallery Warlingham. His paintings invite viewers to see the world a little differently, celebrating colour, individuality and the simple pleasure of creating something meaningful.
