Description
Antique U.S. Army Pattern 1880 woven cartridge belt from the Indian Wars era, featuring dark blue-black woven canvas construction and a brass Pattern 1880 belt plate buckle prominently embossed with "U.S." within an oval. Designed to carry .45-70 Government ammunition for the Springfield Trapdoor service rifle, the belt features individually woven cartridge loops, metal retaining wires, and an adjustable leather fastening section. Includes an assortment of .45-70 cartridges with various period-style headstamps, including W.R.A. Co., U.M.C., and U.M.C. S.H., as photographed. The belt is in excellent condition as well as the ammunition. The brass buckle shows nice patina and wear consistent with age. A collectible example of late 19th-century U.S. military equipment associated with the Indian Wars period.
