Description
This helmet liner is identified to Yeikichi Arakaki, a Japanese American soldier of the 100th Infantry Battalion, 442nd Infantry Regiment. The liner retains a laundry marking “A-3646” and is marked “100” on the exterior, indicating association with the 100th Infantry Battalion. The name “Genevieve” is also present on the liner, likely a personal inscription. The liner was recovered near Colmar, France, consistent with the unit’s combat operations in the Vosges region during late 1944. Arakaki enlisted on March 12, 1943, and served with the 100th Infantry Battalion during its campaigns in Italy and France. Unit records place him in combat near Biffontaine, France, where he was wounded in October 1944 by rifle fire, sustaining injuries to the foot and hand. The 100th Infantry Battalion, later part of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, became one of the most highly decorated units of the war. *Sourced from a reputable and trustworthy private collection*
