Description
S#: 4974 | 6" Barrel | Mfg. 1889 (Antique) | WKK Inspected | Let me start off by saying that this Revolver belongs in a Museum due to the rarity, history, and condition. The Model 1889 Navy revolver is historically significant as both the first Colt double action with a swing-out cylinder and the first double action revolver adopted by the U.S. military. What further makes this one Exceptionally Collectible is that it is one of the very first produced in the initial 5,000 units that made up the Navy Contract. It is said that the serial numers started around 5,001 and this one is 27 numbers PRIOR to that! Also, this is one of estimated 5% (363 out of 5,000 Total) of Model 1889 Revolvers that lacks the 1895 cylinder and locking system, which means the cylinder freely spins. This was an update that were added to almost all of the Navy contract revolvers | The Butt is Marked "USN/Anchor/.38D.A/ No 4974/ P/WWK/1889". It was inspected by W. W. Kimball and is the Model of "1889" | Matching "5011" assembly numbers marked on the frame, barrel, crane, and cylinder | Fitted with a correct pattern pair of smooth unmarked walnut grips |||| CONDITION: Excellent. Retaining 98% Original Blued Finish. With a Stellar Amount of Fire Blueing still Present on the Trigger, Screws, and Hammer. Wood Grips are in Good and Solid Condition. Mechanically Functions. Bore is in Good Condition with signs of light pitting and great rifling ||||| CLASS: ANTIQUE
