Description
Matching Serial number scratched into Ricasso of blade, and the end of the scabbard. This Serial number is "636095". These sabers were manufactured primarily at Arsenal 6561 (and a few other state-run factories) starting in 1965. Despite the rise of mechanized warfare, the PLA maintained active horse cavalry divisions well into the late 20th century to patrol the rugged, mountainous border terrains of Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, and Tibet. The Chinese Type 65 Cavalry Saber was designed for active combat, border patrol, and ceremonial duties. Introduced during the height of the Cold War, it holds a unique historical distinction as the first and last standardized cavalry sword officially designed for the People's Liberation Army (PLA). Pristine, excellent condition and believed to have been unissued.
