Description
This 100% authentic elegant Japanese katana spans the transition from the late Muromachi (Koto) to early Edo (Shinto) periods. The blade dates to the late 16th or early 17th century and bears a partial signature (nagamei) on the tang reading “Banshu Nagasawa ju Yoshi…” (??????...). This signature is highly indicative of Banshu Yoshinaga, a prominent swordsmith active in the Harima Province at the dawn of the Edo period. The blade showcases a masterfully forged, dynamic S?sh?-style notare hamon (wavy temper line). It is housed in complete, late Edo-period (circa 1800s) samurai koshirae (mountings), featuring a custom-fitted tsuka (hilt), a signed iron tsuba (handguard), and a striking nashiji (aventurine/pear-skin) lacquered saya (scabbard). |||| MEASUREMENTS: Overall Length: Approx. 36.75 in. | Blade Length (Nagasa - guard to tip): Approx. 27 in. | Total Blade Length (Tip to tang heel): Approx. 34.5 in. *Sourced from a reputable and trustworthy private collection*
