Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach autographed correspondence on a printed postcard, dated February 21, 1907, Vienna, Austria. Written in German and addressed to the publishing house Otto Wigand in Leipzig, the postcard concerns permission to reproduce her poetry in a forthcoming literary anthology.
The printed text, translated from German, reads: "I hereby declare my consent to the inclusion of the poem you indicated to me, dated February 20, 1907, in the revised edition of Wolff's Poetischem Hausschatz."
Ebner-Eschenbach has completed the authorization in her own handwriting, including the date and her name, "Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach." The reverse retains its original Austrian five-heller postage stamp and postal cancellations from Vienna and Leipzig.
The postcard measures approximately 5.75 x 3.75 inches. Fine condition with light age toning and minor handling wear.
Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach (1830–1916) was an Austrian novelist, playwright, and short-story writer, widely regarded as one of the most important German-language literary figures of the late 19th century. Celebrated for her psychological insight, social commentary, and realistic portrayals of human relationships, she wrote such notable works as Child of the Parish (Das Gemeindekind) and Lotti, the Clockmaker. Her literary achievements earned her widespread recognition, including an honorary doctorate from the University of Vienna in 1900, making her one of the first women to receive that distinction.
