From May 31st through June 3rd 1962, Duke took part in the First International Jazz Festival in Washington, D.C. sponsored by the President's Music Committee of the People-to-People program. Duke, a native son of D.C., headlined the festival and was awarded with this key to the city as part of the program. This lot also includes a signed photo of Duke being presented with the key. The inscription reads, "To cousin Bernice & Family. Love, Edward."
