Description
An interesting patchworked panel, English, late 18th century, with central engraved portrait of a lady, bordered by square patches of block and roller prints, 53 by 48cm, 20 3/4 by 18 3/4in. The central portrait is of Miss Anne Brunton, later Mrs Merry, later Mrs Wignell in the role of "Horatia" in the Roman Father, which she performed in Bath and Bristol 3rd May 1785 and at Covent Garden, 17th October, 1785.
Condition
some of the outer edges of the most extreme patches are fraying; two brown patches within the main panel have holes lower right side. Two patches lower left side - the cotton has split away from the stitched seam edge.
