Native American Eastern Woodland Stone Axe Head

Lot 0067B Details

Description
Native American, North America, Eastern Woodland, ca. 200 to 1000 CE. A fine hand-carved stone axe head in natural hues of dark grey and brown. The lovely implement displays a rounded butt, a flat top, and a sharp cutting edge that tapers to a triangular point. The base has two raised peaks that dip in the middle for the head to be tied to a handle. Woodland people developed agricultural techniques and produced many varieties of maize and other crops. Tools like this example would have facilitated this. Size: 7.625" L x 2.2" W (19.4 cm x 5.6 cm)

Provenance: private southwestern Pennsylvania collection, ex-MacLeod collection

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

We ship worldwide to most countries and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience.
