CRANSTON, R.I. – Paintings by two renowned Indian artists took top lot honors in Bruneau & Co. Auctioneers’ online-only Estate Fine Art & Antique Auction held November 15. A work by B. Prabha (1933-2001), titled Indian Women Painting, soared to $38,750, while a Cubist figural watercolor by Maqbool Fida Husain (1915-2011), of a couple on horseback, realized $10,625.

CINCINNATI – A renowned Civil War collection, singular historical memorabilia, photographs and manuscripts drove strong prices across two days of American historical ephemera and photography sales at Hindman Auctions. The November 12 Civil War Collection of James C. Frasca auction achieved more than $834,000. A 98 percent sell-through rate demonstrated bidders’ intense interest in this one-of-a-kind collection. Hats, drums, regulation bugles, swords, photographs and documents signed by America’s Founding Fathers were among standout lots in the auction. The November 15 American Historical Ephemera & Photography auction totaled more than $823,000 with a 91 percent sell-through rate. Early photography and manuscript archives were among auction highlights. In particular, Civil War photography was highly sought after.

BALTIMORE — The Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA) is now presenting the first comprehensive exhibition to explore the singular 43-year friendship between Baltimore collector Etta Cone and French modern master Henri Matisse.

A Modern Influence: Henri Matisse, Etta Cone, and Baltimore opened in October and continues through January 2, 2022. The exhibition precedes the December opening of the Ruth R. Marder Center for Matisse Studies at the BMA, which will allow for greater public and scholarly engagement with the museum’s Matisse collection.

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Amanda Everard, president and co-owner of Everard Auctions and Appraisals, says her favorite parts of the auction business are constantly learning about objects and helping clients. An 11-year-veteran of Sotheby’s before she and her family started their own auction house, the Antiques Roadshow appraiser has a deep knowledge of antiques and art. As a smallish city that attracts people from across the country, Savannah is known for its gentility. Collectors and homeowners there tend to take more to traditional furnishings than most areas and fine items can be found in many of the city’s gracious old homes.
