Unsung Scandinavian designer Quistgaard featured in Phaidon monograph

NEW YORK – On March 8, Phaidon will release Jens Quistgaard: The Sculpting Designer, the first English-language book to celebrate the work of an unsung hero of modern design. Jens Quistgaard (1919-2008) was one of the founders of the Scandinavian Modern style, which he popularized in the USA as chief designer at the iconic Dansk Designs for 30 years. Today, his work is celebrated by design fans across the world and Quistgaard’s philosophy – that utilitarian, everyday items should function harmoniously – is as relevant as it ever was. This book delves deep into Quistgaard’s life and work to reveal his significant contribution to design history.

Personal items from legendary sharpshooter Annie Oakley to be auctioned March 18

CLEARWATER, Fla. – On March 18, 2023, Blackwell Auctions will offer several items personally owned by Annie Oakley, including an engraved carriage clock gifted to her for her birthday during her European tour in 1901. Several other items will also be offered, including 16 books that were owned – and, in some cases, signed – by Oakley, including a book inscribed to her husband by the author, bandleader John Philip Sousa. The collection also boasts a personal check, signed by Oakley shortly before her death, made out to her niece.

NEW YORK — Born in Vienna, Emma Fordyce MacRae (1887-1974) grew up in New York City and was a member of the group of women artists known as the Philadelphia Ten, but is perhaps most closely associated with the Rockport School and the Cape Ann School of Massachusetts.
