Thomaston Place plans full summer slate for July 7-9 auction

THOMASTON, Maine – Thomaston Place Auction Galleries’ Summer Splendor Sale, scheduled for Friday, July 7, Saturday, July 8, and Sunday, July 9, beginning at 11 am Eastern time each day, will be packed with important artwork and decorative rarities. The sale will include large selections of American and European art, antique, custom and modern furniture, as well as jewelry and watches, estate silver, Asian artifacts, folk art and marine items, and art pottery. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

LOS ANGELES — John Moran Auctioneers‘ June 6 Art of the American West sale brought phenomenal results, specifically in the fine art category. The star of the show was the Native American artist Oscar Howe, who is best known for his innovative and expressive depictions of traditional Dakota culture and mythology. He had two works in the sale. Each earned six-digit bids, but one achieved a new world action record for the artist at $325,000. Other standouts included a Navajo Late Classic child’s blanket, a sculpture by Allan House, Native American pottery and Hopi and Pueblo jewelry. Absentee and Internet live bidding was facilitated by LiveAuctioneers.

Harvard Art Museums admission now free for all visitors

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard Art Museums have announced a new free admission policy for all visitors, effective immediately. The new policy represents a significant expansion of free access to the museums’ collections, exhibitions and research for public audiences. The museums are open to visitors Tuesday through Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm Eastern time (except major holidays), and during monthly Harvard Art Museums at Night programs on the last Thursday evening of each month.
