**First Time At Auction**
Ancient Central Asia, Siberia, Pleistocene Epoch, ca. 1.2 million to 24,000 years ago. A wonderfully preserved example of a fossilized tooth from the prehistoric woolly rhinoceros (Coelodonta antiquitatis). The circular cavities on top indicate this is a molar and are a natural part of the tooth formation. The roots are a glossy brown and black, while the enamel is a beautiful beige and gray. Impressive teeth like this example inspired the scientific name of these rhinos, as Coelodonta antuquitatis translates to "ancient hollow tooth." A very pretty tooth with beautiful hues that formed from the fossilization process! Size: 2.75" L x 2.25" W (7 cm x 5.7 cm); 4" H (10.2 cm) on included custom stand.

Tooth repaired from approximately 6 pieces with visible fissures and cavities. Chips and losses to enamel and root. Lacquer fixative covers surface. Beautiful coloration and mineral deposits.
