**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chimu, ca. 1100 to 1450 CE. An impressive mold-formed pottery stirrup vessel of rectangular form featuring a mother llama with her cria (baby camelid) on top. Presenting a conical spout projecting from her backside, the mother llama lays down with all four legs spread out to her right side, as her tail and clearly delineated genitalia are exposed at her rear. Her head is outstretched in front of her, displaying a long snout with incised nostrils, a large mouth, a pair of bulging eyes, and two round ears. A thick ribboned handle stretches from the spout to her neck. Much smaller than the mother, the cria lays to her right side, exhibiting large ears and a raised tail, as he opens his mouth as though mid-cry. Size: 6" L x 3.5" W x 7" H (15.2 cm x 8.9 cm x 17.8 cm)

Condition
Chip to ear of larger llama. Expected minor nicks and light abrasions to corners, underside, handle, and spout. Otherwise, excellent and intact with lovely earthen deposits in some recessed areas.
