Southeast Asia, Indonesia, ca. mid to late 19th century CE. A nice example of a personal ceremonial sword known as a kris (also keris). The forged-iron blade features a gently oscillating profile beneath a separate shoulder that protrudes out to one side. The handle is hand-carved from dugong bone - a marine mammal related to the more-familiar manatee - and exhibits a dramatically curved form above a nodule-laden brass spacer cap. The wooden sheath is constructed from three pieces including a guard protector, a blade housing, and a sheath tip. Size (w/ sheath): 5.375" W x 18" H (13.7 cm x 45.7 cm); (blade): 14.625" L (37.1 cm)
This is an ESA antique exempt piece of ivory and cannot be sold internationally or to anyone residing in the states of California, Hawaii, Illinois, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, and Washington. We guarantee that the piece is over 100 years old.

Condition
Sheath components reattached to one another with light adhesive residue along attachment areas. Loosening to spacer cap beneath handle, with light nicks and oxidation to blade. Nice patina to blade, handle, and sheath.
