A REPUBLIC OF TEXAS MANUSCRIPT, JAMES HARPER STARR APPOINTS NATHANIEL AMORY ADMINISTRATOR OF ESTATE, NACOGDOCHES TO SAN AUGUSTINE COUNTY JUDGE OF PROBATE, DEC 21, 1837, handwritten manuscript in ink on cream laid paper, signed, "J.H. Starr." 9 3/4" x 7 1/2" Note: Involved in land speculation and banking during the Republic of Texas, the business partnership between James Harper Starr and Nathaniel C. Amory is evident herein. The document records an estate of William P. King who is listed in a Texas State Historical Association entry as the youngest defender to fall mortally wounded at the Battle of the Alamo, which would have entitled him and/or his estate to land for his service. Provenance: Estate of Dr. Paul E. Shutts, Houston, Texas.
Condition
Creases, pencil inscriptions, ink transfer, some mild losses, overall in good to very good condition, wear commensurate with age.
