ENGLISH STERLING SILVER OPEN SALTS AND SALT SPOON, LOT OF SEVEN, comprising a Georgian open salt with worn maker's mark from London having 1743 date mark and three cabriole legs, a similar open salt by Harry Freeman of London with 1928 date mark and a cobalt blue glass liner, a pair of Victorian barrel/bucket-form open salts probably by William Hunter of London with 1868 date marks, a pair of Victorian pedestal salts by Henry Matthews of Birmingham with 1898 date marks featuring repousse and chased decoration, and a salt spoon by Mary Chawner of London with King William duty mark and 1836 date mark. Each with maker's mark and three or four English hallmarks of a lion passant for sterling fineness, a city mark, and a date mark, some with duty marks. Total weight excluding glass liner: 9.085 ozt. 18th, 19th, and 20th century. Georgian open salt 1 3/8" H, 2 3/8" D rim.
Condition
Mostly in very good overall condition with minor to moderate wear, surface scratches, and other imperfections including slight bending, dents, nicks, and/or worn spots to decoration; Georgian salt and one barrel salt with labels adhered to base; glass liner with polishing, either as made or post-production.
