Item Details
Description
North Carolina Currency
April 2, 1776 North Carolina $5 "Thrush" PMG VF-20
North Carolina. April 2, 1776. Five Dollars. "Thrush" vignette. PMG graded Very Fine-20.
Fr. NC-162a. A choice, well printed note on this popular 1776 series, this $5 "Thrush" variety has a deep black heavy top border in addition to its right and left side borders and its important vignette. The text and designs are sharply printed on lightly circulated clean laid period paper. All four margins are clear of its designs, straight, and show the light, yet legible, signatures of Haywood, Williams, and Sumner (along with a less legible fourth signature). Its PMG holder has mention of restoration which is hard to detect, yet is likely a minor sealed centerfold edge split. The blank reverse is clean, even in tone with one faint contemporary signature. Overall, an attractive solid example of this denomination and vignette type.
