Maryland AGAINST THE STATE CONSTITUTION Ballot Against the new State Constitution which Outlawed Slavery
1864-Dated Civil War Period Paper Ballot from the Maryland Constitutional Convention, Against the new State Constitution which Outlawed Slavery, disenfranchised Southern sympathizers, and reapportioned the General Assembly based upon the number of white inhabitants, Crisp Mint.
Original, rare Printed Paper Ballot to be cast, "Against the Constitution", measuring 2.25" x 4.25" with a blank reverse. In 1864 the "Border State" of Maryland held a Constitutional Convention to outlaw Slavery, limit the political power of Slave owners, and deny the right to vote to Southern sympathizers, Many voted against the new Constitution, but the votes of soldiers carried the day for the Unionists. This is a rare survivor in superb condition of that contest.
