Image presents backmark of Charles D. Fredericks, Broadway, New York. Carte image presents good tones with some bumping at edges of carte and a corner loss (5mm x 2mm) and lower right corner. James Shields (1806-1879) United States politician and Army officer. Shields is the only person to ever serve in the United States Senate from three different states. Shields commanded the 2nd Division of the V Corps, Army of the Potomac (subsequently part of the Army of the Shenandoah), during the Valley Campaign of 1862 and was wounded at the Battle of Kernstown on March 22, 1862.
