Hill and Adamson (Scotland, fl. 1840-1850), Newhaven Fisherwomen, Calotype, c. 1845, calotype by David Octavius Hill (Scottish, 1802�1870) and Robert Adamson (Scottish, 1821�1848), depicting Newhaven fisherwomen Marion Finlay, Mrs. Margaret Dryburgh Lyall, and Mrs. Grace Finlay Ramsay gathered around to read a letter, with pen inscription 'Photo by D. O. Hill' on verso, mounted.Reference: Other prints of this same image can be found in the collections of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, The National Portrait Gallery, London, J. Paul Getty Museum, and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.

Overall good vintage condition, wear and rubbing to edges, creases in corners, 1 in. tear near bottom of right edge, minor foxing, very faint central vertical crease, photo possibly trimmed, light pencil line along right contour of seated woman's face, photo fully mounted.
