Description
A program from The Country Dinner Playhouse (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) for the play "Beginner's Luck," signed by two of its cast members, former "Hogan's Heroes" co-stars Bob Crane (1928-1978) and Bernard Fox (1927-2016). Crane has signed it as "To Marilyn [?] / Bob" in the upper right corner of the front cover, and Fox has signed it as "Bernard Fox" along a vertical orientation on the left edge of the front cover. N.d., but several clues in the program point to a date of ca. 1973. Expected surface wear including light toning and isolated minor stains and foxing, else near fine. 8pp. 6" x 9."
Bob Crane had played the eponymous role of Colonel Robert Hogan on the CBS sitcom "Hogan's Heroes," which aired from 1965-1971 and earned him two Emmy nominations. Bernard Fox appeared in eight episodes of the highly popular show set at a World War II German prisoner-of-war camp, as RAF Group Captain Crittendon. Crane and Fox collaborated again in this production of Norman Barasch and Carroll Moore's 2-act comedy, "Beginner's Luck." Crane played the play's leading role, Paul Burnett, as well as directed the 4-person cast.
Crane had purchased the rights to Barasch and Moore's play "Beginner's Luck" in 1973. He acted in it and directed it in dinner theatres across the United States including Ohio, Florida, California, and Arizona. Crane was touring with "Beginner's Luck" in Scottsdale, Arizona when he was found bludgeoned to death on June 29, 1978. Crane's death remains a cold case.
