In 8vo; mm 170x105; Legatura in piena pelle coeva con dorso a 5 nervi e fregi dorati, piatti con triplo filetto a secco, cantonali con gigli in oro e rosone romboidale al centro. Pp. 468, (20). Marca tipografica al frontespizio, iniziali istoriate con vignetta silografica, testo corsivo latino con alcune parti nell'originale greco. Internamente antiche annotazioni al margine a inchiostro bruno. Legatura con qualche mancanza alle cuffie e ai bordi del piatto superiore, alcune spellature agli spigoli. Bell'esemplare.Sulla vita di Diogene Laerzio si hanno scarse informazioni. La fama che riveste quest'autore del III secolo d.C. è fondamentalmente legata alla sua opera in dieci libri “Raccolta delle vite e delle dottrine dei filosofi”. In essa egli esamina 84 figure di pensatori, dai Sette sapienti ad Epicuro, disponendo le informazioni per scuole filosofiche e rispettando le successioni degli scolarchi fissate dalla tradizione. Senza quest'opera buona parte della nostra conoscenza della filosofia antica sarebbe andata perduta.

8vo; mm 170x105; Contemporary full leather binding, spine with 5 ribs, gilt ornaments, triplee blind tooled rules, gilt lily on corners and at the center of the covers. Pp. 468, (20). Printer’s mark on title page, historiated initial, latin text, Italic type with some original parts in Greek. Some marginal annotations, binding with defects, some loss of leather, overall good copy.

In it he examines 84 figures of thinkers, from the Sages to Epicurus, arranging the information for philosophical schools and respecting the succession of scholars established by tradition. Without this work, much of our knowledge of ancient philosophy would have been lost.
