Description
Two pieces related to Moshe Dayan (1915-1981), the Israeli military commander and statesman, including a typed letter with a possibly stamped signature by Dayan in English; and a vintage photograph signed by Dayan in Hebrew. A superb double autograph in two languages conveniently offered together!
The lot is comprised of:
1. A 1p typed letter in English signed by Dayan as "M. Dayan" in blue ink at the lower right. Written in Tel Aviv, Israel on November 8, 1968 on a single leaf of "The Minister of Defence" letterhead, complete with the Emblem of Israel showing a menorah flanked by two olive branches at the center of the letterhead. Expected wear including light transmittal folds. The left edge of the page is lightened/sun-bleached, and there is a minor corner wrinkle at the lower left, else near fine. 7.75" x 9.875." Dayan thanks a California well-wisher.
Dayan served as Israeli Minister of Defense from 1967 to 1974.
2. A vintage photograph of Dayan, signed by him in Hebrew along the bottom margin in black pen. The glossy, black and white photograph was inscribed by several former collectors verso; some impressions from these inscriptions are visible recto. A paper clip impression is located at top. Scattered minor foxing only visible verso. Else very good to near fine. 3.5" x 5.25."
