Description
James Monroe (1758-1831) 5th President. 14” x 10”, partially printed document signed, Washington, May 24, 1824. The document is a landgrant for one hundred and sixty acres to Loch Phipps in Illinois and is countersigned by George Graham (1770-1830). Graham twice served as acting United States Secretary of War, including during the transition between the administrations of Presidents James Madison and James Monroe, as well as Commissioner of the General Land Office. There is a small piece missing in the upper right corner, away from text. The white paper seal is present.
