Item Details
Description
Native American, Southwestern United States, Four Corners Region, southern Colorado Plateau, Anasazi (Ancestral Puebloan), ca. 1030 to 1175 CE. A sizable redware pottery jar formed via the traditional Anasazi coil-and-scrape technique with a slightly rounded but stable base, an inverted bell-shaped body with a bulging carination, a rounded shoulder, and a thin rim surrounding the deep basin. The russet-hued exterior is densely decorated with black pigment that forms spiraling right-angle bands, solid stripes, and slash-filled stripes. While undecorated, the base and lower body exhibit areas of fire-darkening that almost appear to be intentional areas of embellishment! Size: 12.85" Diameter x 8" H (32.6 cm x 20.3 cm)

Provenance: ex-John B. Kendrick II collection, Denver, Colorado, USA, acquired 1965 to 1990; John B. Kendrick II was that son of John B. Kendrick, Wyoming governor and US senator
