Description
North America, Southwest, Central eastern Arizona, Anasazi / Ancestral Puebloan, Greater Mogollon, Greater Salado, Upper Gila (Highland Salado), Tonto Polychrome, ca. 1350 to 1450 CE. A gorgeous Tonto pottery jar of impressive size exhibiting a round but stable base, a dramatically carinated midsection, and a tapered shoulder surmounted by a flared rim. The smooth exterior surfaces are decorated with bands of black pigment on the cream-hued buff surface that create stylized feathers or claws as well as linear and geometric motics. The patterns extend to the rim while the upper shoulder and lower body are covered in wide, solid bands of red pigment. Size: 15.75" Diameter x 10.125" H (40 cm x 25.7 cm)

Minor abrasions and pitting, with light fading to pigment in scattered areas, and light earthen deposits, otherwise intact and excellent. Wonderful preservation to exterior motifs.
