Description
Passport issued to Austrian sales representative 'Isaak Hay', bearing a large, red 'J' on the first page. The 'reisepass' was issued to the 44-year-old Hay in Vienna on Jan. 14, 1939, still bears his identification photograph, and also bears his particulars on the adjoining page. The ninth page shows a visa inkstamp granted at Vienna on Feb. 24, 1939, certifying him a one-way trip from Colombo, Sri Lanka to Australia, and an inscription just beneath indicates he is sailing from Amsterdam to Colombo on March 22, 1939. The last page bears an inkstamp from the Italian border office of the port of Genoa, dated March 30, 1939, likely a stop on his long sail to Sri Lanka. Finally, two official stamps on page 11 place him at Colombo on April 13, 1939, then finally in Australia on April 25, 1939. Covers disbound and largely split on the folded edge, else very good.
