Outstanding One Cent "F. Buhl & Co." Detroit Rarity-8
EP-8, HB-67, S-38, Reed-BU01. One Cent. F. BUHL & CO. Detroit. Choice Extremely Fine.
Rated as Rarity-8 (5 to 10 known) according to Fred Reed. A high quality example of this elusive major Merchant type. The 1 Blue Benjamin Franklin 1861 issue U.S. postage stamp is very well centered and remains fresh and bright, nice and bold in its original color with just a small nib out of the paper left of ONE at the rim edge. The mica is clear and unbroken, having just some light hairlines from circulation. The case is clean and choice, having sharp clear and distinct legends that are highlighted by faint traces of surrounding luster is a lovely natural chestnut-brown color. Absolutely, one of the very nicest, most impressive examples of this Merchant we have seen. Previous examples include our EAHA Auction of August 27, 2005, The Dr. Gratz Collection Sale Lot 831 graded Choice EF sold at $5,605; this exact currently offered EP-8 was sold in our EAHA Auction of October 24, 2014 as Lot 503, where is sold for $4,130 nearly a decade ago. A very lovely example of this scarce merchant type.
