Description
Simon B. Buckner (1823-1914) Politician, CSA General. Buckner fought in the United States Army in the Mexican–American War. He later fought in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. After the war, he served as the 30th governor of Kentucky. 8” x 10” autograph letter signed, four-pages (front and back), Fort Snelling, May 29, 1851, to Col. William Hickey. “…When I addressed you a letter last winter and enclosed you a copy of my application to the Adjutant General of the Army. I had no doubt that your friendship for me would materially assist my application for promotion…your friendship and regard would bring before the President my claims for Brevet Promotion…When I wrote to you last winter I supposed that the subject of Brevet rank would not again to touched upon by the Senate, in reference to promotions for the Mexican War… “
