Item Details
Description
South America, Argentina or Uruguay, Pampas region, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A collection of 4 stirrups, one pair is matched, and the other is very similar in overall form- the two larger cast from nickel-silver and the matched pair are brass. A simple but elegant shape, with flattened foot plates, arched bands with strap openings for securing to the saddle. While gaucho cowboys often use oversized and elaborate stirrups, these petite pairs may have been used for sport riding, such as polo or pato.
