Clarke led frontier guerrillas in inflicting a heavy toll against the British. The state of Georgia would reward his service during the Revolutionary War by giving him land grants (such as the present.) Following the Revolutionary War, he would act as commissioner for Georgia’s treaties with Native Americans. As a general of militia, he led his men in defeating the Creeks at Jack’s Creek, in present-day Walton County (very near our auction house location), on September 21, 1787.
