Property from a Princely collection
Large and refined "pa la'au" or meat platter in beautiful golden-colored kou wood. Pa la'au with elegantly carved feet like this platter are very rare, and their use was restricted to the ali'i or high-ranking dignitaries.
This exceptional platter belonged to the American Dillingham family that had been in Hawai'i since the middle of the 19th C. and contributed considerably to paving the way to the modernization of Hawai'i. Both in business and politics, the Dillinghams were amongst the five most influential families in Hawai'i.
