Unpublished quarter plate daguerreotype of famous actress and opera singer, Jenny Lind.

Jenny Lind (1820-1887) was a renowned actress and opera singer, known as the "Swedish Nightingale,” who rose to international fame in the 19th century for her remarkable vocal range and emotive performances. Lind retired from opera in 1852 but continued singing, using her fame to advocate for charitable causes, mainly in education and the arts. During the American Civil War era, she was undoubtedly the most famous woman in the country, due to a concert tour she undertook that was promoted by P.T. Barnum.

An exciting find made last year, this is the first time this piece has been made available publicly at auction. The plate has not been inspected outside its case. While possibly a second-generation period image, it is difficult to ascertain with certainty. In any case, it is an unpublished view. Housed in a full leatherette case.
