[William Howard Taft 1857-1930] Served as the 27th United States President (1909-1913) 10th Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and 1st Provisional Governor of Cuba. Written during his tenure as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court (1921-1930) to Mr. Edward W. Bok who was the editor-in-check of Ladies Home Journal. The letter is written on Supreme Court stationary "December 10,1923/My dear Mr. Bok:/the details of the incident about Smuts I do not remember, although I recall that in some way we tried to get him. I shall forward your letter to President Angell to see what he thinks about it./Whenever you come to Washington it will be a great pleasure to see you. With very warm regards, believe me, as always,/Sincerely yours,/ W.H.Taft." Bottom left " Edward W. Bok/The Academy of Music,/Philadelphia, Pa." It is a clear and strong signature. Size: 10 1/2" x 8"..Fold mark on letter, some toning.
