U.S. Model 1832 Foot Artillery Sword and Scabbard,
Nathaniel P. Ames, Springfield, Massachusetts, 1833.
Brass hilt with eagle decorated pommel, molded scale grip, and heavy counter-guard marked on the underside 'S. HUSE/NEWBURYPORT' and with 'DT' within an oval inspector's mark for U.S. Army Lieutenant Daniel Tyler who inspected contractor-made weapons in the 1830s; gladius-style double-edge fullered blade marked at the top on one side with a spread wing eagle over 'N.P. AMES/SPRINGFIELD' and on the other side 'UNITED STATES/1833'; black leather scabbard with brass tip and throat with button frog stud.

Condition
Brass hilt toned to deep yellow and with scattered minor dings and dents; blade is cleaned bright with minor pitting and associated light gray toning; scabbard has scattered surface loss, a bend in the center and an approx. 1/2 in. hole in the side.
