Spanish Colonial Retablo featuring The Trinity/ La Santísima Trinidad

The three elements of The Trinity (the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost) are depicted here as three nearly identical-looking young men, each with nearly identical garments and nearly idential long hair and facial hair--as if they were triplets of the same age and size. Each young man however is clearly distinguishable thanks to his individualized symbols and garments (attributes). 1) God the Father is in the center, wearing a round image of the red sun (with anthropomorphic facial features on it); he also holds a scepter in his left hand and points upward in benediction with two fingers of his right hand. He is wearing a light-colored robe that symbolizes purity/ faith/ light/ integrity. 2) God the Son (on the left, in a dark brown tunic with a dark blue mantle--brown symbolizing humility and blue symbolizing divine love) holds a small lamb close to his chest, signifying his role as the Paschal Victim; his left hand (and also part of his right hand) displays drops of blood from the wounds of the crucifixion. 3) God the Holy Spirit (on the right, in red--the symbol of royalty and of the blood of Christian martyrs) usually wears the symbol of a dove--however here he appears to clasp his hands on his chest as he possibly holds the dove (the fine details are unclear). The three young men are painted among a series of round stylized clouds. And if you look closely at the background, there are triangles painted above and behind them--triangular halos--and final proof of the image as a depiction of The Trinity.
