D. Useful informative manual, abundantly illustrated, which provides a complete report, as well as the developments of the telegraph apparatus, of all the lines in operation in Europe (as of 1854), stations, routes, tariffs, etc. The part dedicated to submarine cables is interesting. D. Lardner, a professor at University College London, was an effective popularizer of the main innovations in science and technology, publishing numerous manuals.
