Description
American, 19th century. A framed photograph of Francis Redding Tillou Nicholls (1834-1912) and other men. American attorney, politician, judge, brigadier general in the Confederate States Army during the U.S. Civil War where he held distinction at Winchester and Chancellorsville. Nicholls went on to serve as 28th Governor of Louisiana twice; the latter being after the Reconstruction era.
Overall good condition, photo has slipped from mat. Photographer unknown. Measures 22" w x 20" h.
From the estate and lifelong collection of William Garrett Hodges (1946-2014). Hodges was a Virginia-based dealer of fine arts, with specialization in prints and rare books, having collected for decades. He supplied and consulted various groups on antiquities throughout his career, including the White House, the Vice President's residence, the FBI, and multiple film and television series.
