1778 Rare Antique Revolutionary War Era Newspaper; THE LONDON CHRONICLE (from Saturday, February 14, to Tuesday, February 17, 1778). Sold in London, England by J. Wilkie in St. Paul's Church-yard. Includes:

"...A letter from a Scots officer in the Russian service...the Tartars had...penetrated the beginning of the year into the Ukraine...the Imperial officer had taken to bar their way; and that though these barbarians had been twice overtaken by the Russian troops, and their booty recovered from them, they had done great damage to the subjects of the Empress, having burnt several small towns and villages, and carried off a great number of the inhabitants into slavery..."

"...Gen. Howe, having left Philadelphia on the 21st of Dec. with a very strong foraging party, the rebels some days after made an attack upon our lines at Philadelphia and were repulsed..."

"...Gen Burgoyne is very ill at Boston, and that Gen. Carleton hath desired a reinforcement of troops..."

"...When the Gazette, containing the account of Gen. Burgoyne's surrender, reached this place, a Woolcomber was so affected with the news, that he flung down his combs, and swore he would never work again till he was revenged of the American rebels..."

"...the whole of the forces under Gen. Burgoyne had been either killed or taken prisoners on the plains of Saratoga..."

"...The letter had expressly mentioned independence as a fundamental claim on which the Americans insisted...General Gates did not appear to know that the earl of Chatham had disclaimed the idea of American independence..."
