He married Annette Wassilieff in 1888.Residing in Boulevard Voltaire, he died following a short illness at 4 rue du Faubourg-Saint-Antoine at the age of 53. He is buried in the Parisian cemetery of Ivry .It's possible that Gustave Vient fought in the war of 1870 as he painted several battles scenes and military portraits from this time.
