Description
Tit Yakovlevich Dvornikov (1862-1922) "Winter motif", drawing on post-card, ca. 1900

Painted on Russian blanco post-card, it is an original drawing by well-known Ukrainian artist from the turn of the 20th century, Tit Yakovlevich Dvornikov.

Tit Yakovlevich Dvornikov (1862 Village Mashchenky by Kursk - 1922 Odessa) began his studies at the Kharkov Art School. He then continued at the Odessa Art School, where in 1889-1891 he was a pupil of K. Kostandi. Finally, he studied (graduate of 1897) at the St. Petersburg Imperial Academy of Fine Arts. He was a regular exponent of the Union of South Russian Artists; from 1912 participated in exhibitions of "PEREDVIZHNIKI" ("ITINERANTS"); was also one of the founding members of the Kiriak Kostandi School of Artists in Odessa, where he settled permanently after graduating St. Petersburg Academy, and where from 1913 he taught at the Odessa Art School.

Provenance: acquired in March 2011 at Ebay auction as one of several drawings, as well as watercolor and oil studies - all similarly painted on Russian blanco post-cards and produced by Odessa artists of the turn of 20th century. The Ebay-seller was a lady living currently in Freiberg, Saxony (Germany), who inherited the album previously owned by Mme Erato Mavrogordato. Formerly an Odessa citizen, the latter and her husband (well-known archaeologist Peter (Pierre) Mavrogordato) emigrated in 1903 from Odessa to Germany.
