Two D.C. Newspapers Subscribed to by Future Presidents Fillmore & Polk
A pair of newspapers subscribed to by Presidents Fillmore and Polk. Two issues of the "Daily National Intelligencer" or "National Intelligencer", 4pp, measuring approximately 18.5" x 22.25", dated October 5, 1837 and September 30, 1841. At the top of the first pages of both papers is the handwritten name, in an unknown hand, of the subscriber for delivery - in this case "Mr. Filmore" and "Gov Polk" respectively. Both papers have flattened folds and varying degrees of toning. Chipping and wear to the edges. Scattered soiling. Separations at some of the folds. 1. "Daily National Intelligencer." 4pp, Washington, D.C., dated October 5, 1837. Volume XXV, No. 7690, published by Gales & Seaton. Subscribed to by "Mr. Fillmore." At the time, Fillmore was serving in the House of Representatives as a Member from New York's 32nd District.
2. "National Intelligencer." 4pp, Washington, D.C., dated September 30, 1841. Volume XLII, No. 6083, published by Gales & Seaton. Subscribed to by "Gov Polk." At the time, Polk was serving as the 9th Governor of Tennessee.
